- Abstract
- Ships' routeing systems and traffic separation schemes that have been approved by International Maritime Organization (IMO). A traffic separation scheme is a scheme which aims to reduce the risk of collision in congested and/or converging areas by separating traffic moving in opposite, or nearly opposite, directions. (IHO Dictionary, S-32, 5th Edition, 5585) A traffic separation zone is a zone separating the lanes in which ships are proceeding in opposite o r nearly opposite directions; or separating traffic lanes designated for particular classes of ships proceeding in the same direction (IMO Ships Routeing, 6th Edition).
